The Best of the Best
12 Monkeys
The highly intellectual story of our world after and before it's been destroyed by a deadly virus, and the exploits of the people of the future to find the source of the disease. Bruce Willis is outstanding.
Blues Brothers
An incredibly fun comedy about two brothers who are on a quest to reunite their old band. Not only is the music good, the humor great, but it's also become a classic that everyone should see.
Casablanca
An incredible classic about friendship during the Second World War. In spite of the fact that this is a war movie, in that it's setting is the early '40's, the plot is what has made this movie special.
Dr. Strangelove, or How I Learned to Love the Bomb
A twisted cult-type movie that explores the strange logic that the cold war produced and the sometimes terrifying human aspect of the cold war years. This movie is especially interesting because it was first released during the height of the cold war.
The Fugitive
One of only a very few action flicks to make my Best of the Best collection, The Fugitive is here because of the strength of its plot, and the incredible performance of Harrison Ford.
The Graduate
The sad and sometimes sickening story of a young man who falls into the real world the wrong way. Dustin Hoffman is fantastic in this, one of his first movies.
Hero
Another Dustin Hoffman flick, this one from his later years. Hero qualifies as comedy, and in my opinion comedy at its finest. There's plenty of social criticism going on here to for the more thoughtful moviegoers.
The Hudsucker Proxy
My favorite movie of all time. The Hud is a fantastic comedy on the world of American business and delivers the lines at every turn. It's a story too, not just standup, and the acting is top notch.
Men in Black
Perhaps the most humorous sci-fi movie ever made. MIB rides well on the fact that its creators never intended for it to be taken seriously. A complete ball of laughs.
Much Ado About Nothing
This is the best on screen adaptation of a Shakespeare I've ever seen. Sporting an all star cast who deliver, this flick even gets past the amazingly poor acting of Keanu Reeves. A great date flick, and a great flick in general. I would recommend watching the movie over going to see a live performance of the play.
Romeo and Juliet
MTV's modernized version of the Shakespeare play received mixed reviews when in appeared, and most people either loved it or hated it, but I loved it. I think that the directors brought a story that's been killed in so many high school English classes up to date and back to the high level of quality our 9th grade performances were lacking.
Schindler's List
This is perhaps the most difficult film ever made about the Second World War and the Holocaust. The acting is amazing, and the plot and screenplay leave nothing to be desired. Prepare for a long and touching flick.
The Shawshank Redemption
A film about life and living, The Shawshank Redemption is nearly perfect in every way. The story is of one man who is wrongly imprisoned and is told by his best friend, played by Morgan Freeman.
Top Gun
This movie may be militarily inaccurate, and a bit high on the testosterone side, but it deserves a place on my Best of the Best list because it is a classic. The soundtrack itself is a classic.
The Truman Show
I very intelegent film about the nature of our television society.  Jim Carrey demonstrates finally that he is also a fine dramatic actor.
